EXPERIENCE A MISSISSIPPI DELTA ALTERNATIVE BREAK

Alternative Breaks allow students to engage in community service and hands-on activities in communities across the country. With the Mississippi Delta Alternative Break Program, students from across the country can explore the storied past, rich culture, and the national implications of the uniquely American, Mississippi Delta while also engaging in community service.

At Mississippi State University, a distinctive learning opportunity combines weekly facilitated seminars exploring James C. Cobb’s book The Most Southern Place on Earth: The Mississippi Delta and the Roots of Regional Identity (Oxford, 1992) with a weeklong Mississippi Delta experiential learning excursion. This is not a requirement to take an Alternative Break trip to the Mississippi Delta, but it’s highly encouraged.

We find that entwining the educational aspect and the service aspect creates an experience like no other. Our staff wants to assist your school in planning and executing an Alternative Break trip to the Mississippi Delta!
